Slower sales were seen virtually across the board in the latest United States Mint weekly numismatic product sales report. There were no new products released during the period covered by the report, and the recently released products saw their typical slow down.
Out of the 101 currently available numismatic products included in the report below, 75 of the items experienced slower sales when compared to the previous week. Looking at just the gold and silver numismatic products, slower sales were seen for 29 out of 31 products.
The US Mint does have some popular or long awaited products scheduled for release in the coming weeks that should bring some life back to the charts. The Chester Arthur Presidential Dollar Rolls are scheduled for release on April 5, 2012. This will be the first issue of the series produced in reduced quantity following the suspension of production for circulation. On April 12, 2012, the US Mint will begin sales of the 2012 Proof Silver Eagle, representing the latest release of a perennial favorite series for collectors.
Looking at this week’s sales report, the 2012 Proof Gold Buffalo sold 1,580 units. Added to the debut figure of 4,110 from last week, total sales have now reached 5,690.
The recently released Star Spangled Banner Commemorative Coins added 479 gold coins and 9,850 silver dollars across the individual proof and uncirculated options. The two coin proof sets added 425 units. Sales for the program will continue under introductory pricing until April 5, 2012, after which regular pricing will go into effect.
The full US Mint numismatic product sales report appears below. The figures are compiled through March 26, 2012. The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Products with sales followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available from the United States Mint. Currently available US Mint products can be found online athttp://catalog.usmint.gov/

I wonder if the Mint will fix that typo on the John Tyler coin cover sales total? It appears they hit an “8” instead of a “6” when reporting that number. Either that, or all of a sudden he became a VERY popular guy!
Yes, it seems like an error, which has happened from time to time. It will probably be reversed next week.
I notice that the El Yunque ATB 3-coin set is relatively popular, beating out the Chickasaw set, and likely to outsell the Vicksburg and Olympic sets in a week or two.
I wonder how much the newly-designed holder is a factor in the set’s increase in sales. Perhaps the Mint should go back and re-design the previous sets. I may be tempted to buy a couple of each if they are as attractive as the El Yunque one.
Of course, people who had already purchased the earlier sets will be in an uproar, but maybe the Mint can offer some kind of discount or exchange for them – $5.95 for previous purchasers, or a one-for-one swap with each paying their own postage.
Anyone know when the El Yunque 5 Oz coin is scheduled for release?
