The latest weekly United States Mint numismatic product sales report shows a surge in sales for the 2014 American $1 Coin and Currency Set. Several products have also recently sold out and the updated status has been indicated in the report.
On November 20, 2014, the US Mint opened sales for the American $1 Coin and Currency Set. Based on their press release and initial description, the set seemed to simply contain a regular uncirculated quality 2014 Native American Dollar paired with a $1 Federal Reserve Note in special packaging. With no apparent unique draw, the set was likely overlooked by many collectors.
The US Mint eventually confirmed that the coin included in the set contained a special enhanced uncirculated finish. A wire brush was applied to both the obverse and reverse fields and artwork of the dies. Three distinct finishes were used to bring a unique appearance to the coin not seen previously.
Once word of the special finish became more widely publicized, sales spiked and the product intermittently went out of stock on the US Mint’s retail website. Two weeks ago, opening sales were reported at 9,720 units, which rose to 14,073 in the following week’s report. This week, cumulative sales have surged to 38,299, which is quickly approaching the stated product limit of 50,000 units.
Several products have officially been indicated as sold out at the US Mint. This includes the 2014 Proof Gold Buffalo, which currently shows last reported sales of 20,542 units, coming in above the figures from the past two years. The individual one-half ounce and one-quarter ounce 2014 Proof Gold Eagles have also sold out at last reported sales of 5,906 units and 6,001 units, respectively. Finally, the 2014-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle has been indicated as sold out at 225,341 units. This coin does remain available for purchase within the 2014 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set.
The complete US Mint numismatic product sales report appears below. The figures are compiled through December 7, 2014. The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Products with sales followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available from the United States Mint. Currently available US Mint products can be found online at http://catalog.usmint.gov/

Michael:
Anything yet on when the mint will discontinue the 2013 First Spouse sales?
Leo S.
Michael
I just checked the Mint Website and the 2014 Platinum Eagle says “Out of Stock”. Is it really out of stock or are they re-pricing?
Leo S.
I don’t understand how sales of NAT. AM. set have increased during the period when sales first stopped and reading today that they have reached almost 40K
I just contacted the MINT And they said out of stock but you can sign up to be emailed when/if back on sale…. funny thing….
I have a horrible suspicion that the Mint doesn’t intend to end sales of the 2013 First Spouses until they actually sell out. Otherwise they would likely be listed in the “last chance” section of the website, which they’re not.
If so, some of those coins may be languishing in the catalog for a while yet.
@foxman69 –
The C&C set was briefly on sale on both Dec 3 and Dec 4 for a few hours. During those periods, the sales soared, which is why it now has a household limit of 5. The mint is still processing orders from that period, presumably implementing the limit on existing orders and applying them to those who may have ordered sets during the previous availability windows. The sales were initially announced on Tuesday as being over 43,000, but was revised downward to the 38,000 level, presumably as a result of the household limit being exceeded.
I’m hoping that it is a sell out on the Platinum eagle because I’ve got several and that would make it the lowest mintage or darn close.
How in the world can anyone trust the US Mint or our government in general, when they just flat out lie. I just had a go around with a guy about landing on the moon on this site, but he never heard about photoshop. Anyway, with a limit of 5, just how does this happen?? We all know, it’s just many don’t want to accept, that, we have a lying cheating government.

140 sold, say what????? Can you say backdoor??
Jess – The ordering limit of 5 per household was not imposed until this week on December 10. Until this point, the product could be ordered in unrestricted quantities. See additional comments at the end of this article: http://mintnewsblog.com/2014/12/world-war-ii-civil-air-patrol-bronze-medal/
US Mint website…. C & C sets back on sale… I discovered this around 6:00 EST
shows backordered but accepted my order for 3 sets…. we’ll see…!
the mint now puts a 5 set limit for C & C sets each household.
just checked MInt website… C & C sets unavailable (again)…. this is probably the end of this item…glad I was able to guarantee a few sets just days ago…
