Yesterday, the United States Mint began sales of the Chester Arthur Presidential Dollars in 100-coin bags. This joins existing offerings of 25-coin rolls, 250-coin boxes, and 500-coin boxes, which went on sale on April 5, 2012.
The 100-coin bags are available from either the Philadelphia or Denver Mint. The canvas bags are sewn shut and include a tag indicating the year, issue, and mint mark. The face value of the contents is printed on the bag.
Pricing is set at $111.95 plus applicable shipping and handling charges.
Sales of the existing offerings have been stronger than the US Mint’s own projections. Prior to the start of sales, they had anticipated total collector demand for each release of the Presidential Dollar to reach 5 million circulation quality coins. Accordingly, initial production for the Chester Arthur Dollars was 5.74 million coins. As of the latest available sales report, total sales have reached 6,560,575 coins, indicating the production will need to be restarted.
The US Mint will also offer 100-coin bags for the 2012 Native American Dollars starting on May 14, 2012. The bags are also expected to be available for later releases of the 2012 Presidential Dollars, which will feature Grover Cleveland (first term), Benjamin Harrison, and Grover Cleveland (second term).
