On September 29, Legend Rare Coin Auctions will offer 19 coins from the Northern Lights Collection at a PCGS-members-only auction in Las Vegas. Described in the catalog as “one of the all-time greatest collections of monster toned Morgan dollars,” the entire collection of nearly 100 coins is being broken up and sold across six auctions. Part 1, which sells on September 29, comprises lots 73 through 91.
Warming up for the Northern Lights Collection are lots 43 through 72, a handsome range of toned Morgans in high grades, many of them with excellent pedigrees.
Following the sale of the Northern Lights coins, the toned Morgans of collector Phil Flannagan comprise lots 93 through 109. Lot 98 is an 1882-S MS-66 Gold CAC, a coin that moved the cataloger to raptures:
“Mother Nature’s Baby is what we call this monster. The colors are out of this world! Electric and totally original shades of deep pearl green / royal blue / fiery violet / amber swirl all over the obverse. Picasso or the boldest Peacock in heat can’t compare to the magical colors. . . . We strongly believe this coin could (and should) set a world record price.” (Estimate: $15,000)
The Northern Lights Collection is being offered in partnership with CoinWeek, which produced an engaging and informative video on the collection. The video can be viewed on CoinWeek’s website or on YouTube.
