Silver
It’s February 21, 2017, and as of today’s reporting the U.S. Mint’s authorized purchasers (APs) have bought 5,892,500 American Eagle silver bullion coins, with a net sales figure of 205,000 coins over the course of the past week. This represents a drop of 105,000 from the previous week’s figure of 310,000 ASE coins sold.
Last week the Mint sold 1,600 of the 2017 America the Beautiful Effigy Mounds National Monument 5-ounce bullion coins, totaling 8,000 ounces of silver. The total sold this year is reported at 19,300, for a total of 96,500 ounces of silver.

The value of an ounce of silver is infinitesimally down from this time last week, having decreased by 2 cents from $17.91to $17.89, according to the London Bullion Market Association. Silver’s average last week, Monday through Friday, was $17.97 per ounce, up 31 cents from the previous week’s average of $17.66.
Gold
During the past week, the Mint reported sales of 5,000 ounces of American Eagle gold bullion coins, well down from 13,500 ounces the previous week. (No sales of 1/10-ounce AGE coins were reported this period.) All told, AGE coins have sold 141,500 ounces in 2017. American Buffalo 1-ounce gold bullion coins sold 3,000 units last week, down from 6,500 the previous week; this brings the 2017 total for the category to 46,500 ounces.

The value of an ounce of gold is up by $2.45 from this time last week, to $1,233.20. Gold’s average last week, Monday through Friday, was $1,231.98, down from the previous week’s average of $1,232.99.
Platinum
The sales total for the 2017 American Eagle one-ounce platinum bullion coins is 20,000 units. Platinum is up $3.00 compared to this time last week, when it was priced at $999.00 per ounce; platinum is now at $1,002.00 per ounce. The metal’s average last week, Monday through Friday, was $1,003.60, down from the previous week’s $1,009.40. ❑
