As of February 7, 2017, the U.S. Mint’s authorized purchasers (APs) have bought 5,377,500 American Eagle silver bullion coins, with a net sales figure of 250,000 coins over the course of the week. This is a noticeable drop from the previous week’s figure of 405,000 ASE coins sold.
The 2017 America the Beautiful Effigy Mounds National Monument 5-ounce bullion coin have sold 17,700 units, for a total of 88,500 ounces of silver. Effigy Mounds is the first ATB design released this year, and the 36th in the series. The record for 5-ounce bullion coins for the ATB program was set in 2011, when 465,100 coins were sold. 2016 ranks second, with 286,000 coins sold.

The value of an ounce of silver is up 31 cents from this time last week, to $17.60, according to the London Bullion Market Association. Silver’s average last week, Monday through Friday, was $17.40 per ounce, up 45 cents from the previous week’s average of $16.95.
During the past week, the Mint reported sales of 5,500 ounces of American Eagle gold bullion coins, down from 15,000 ounces the previous week. All told, AGE coins have sold 123,000 ounces in 2017. American Buffalo 1-ounce gold bullion coins sold 5,000 units last week, up from 4,000 the previous week; this brings the 2017 total for the category to 37,000 ounces.

The sales total for the 2017 American Eagle one-ounce platinum bullion coins is 20,000 units. Platinum is up $29.00 compared to this time last week, when it was priced at $979.00 per ounce; platinum is now at $1,008.00 per ounce. The metal’s average last week, Monday through Friday, was $991.40, compared to the previous week’s $979.40. ❑
