The Perth Mint of Australia has started accepting orders for the Chinese Ancient Mythical Creatures 5oz Silver Proof Coin. The coin carries an extremely limited mintage and features 24 karat gold gilding and coloration.
According to ancient Chinese mythology, the universe was divided into four quadrants marking the beginning and end of the winter and summer solstices, and the autumn and spring equinoxes. These heavenly quadrants were known as the ‘Four Celestial Palaces’, with each palace represented by a guardian animal and corresponding color, element, and virtue.
The reverse design of the coin features the four Chinese ancient mythical creatures in color with the Yin Yang symbol at the center gilded in 24 karat gold. The inscription reads “Chinese Ancient Mythical Creatures”.
The obverse design of the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the 2014 date and denomination. The coins are issued as Tuvalu legal tender.
Each coin is struck in 99.9% pure silver to proof quality with portions gilded in 24 karat gold or colorized. The coins have a weight of 5 troy ounces, diameter of 65.60 mm, and thickness of 5.80 mm. The maximum mintage is 1,000 pieces.
The coins are presented in a classic black box within an illustrated shipper with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
