The Perth Mint of Australia has recently released the 1/10 oz. Australian Silver Koala. This represents a new size for the Silver Koala, which has previously been available in 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 10 ounce, and 1 kilo sizes.
The most common size silver bullion coin has been traditionally been one ounce. However, as the price of silver has risen, it is perhaps natural to explore smaller sized silver bullion coins.
On the reverse of the coin is an image of an adult and juvenile koala sitting in the fork of a eucalyptus tree designed by Elise Martinson. Inscriptions include “Australian Koala” and “2011 1/10 oz 999 Silver”. New artistry incorporating one or more koalas has been used on the reverse design for each year of the series.
The obverse contains the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include “Elizabeth II”, “Australia”, and the legal tender face value “10 cents”.
Each coin has a diameter of 20.60 mm and thickness of 2.00 mm. The weight is 0.10 troy ounces or 3.135 grams of 99.9% silver.
The 1/10 oz. Silver Koala is listed on the Perth Mint website at a price of AUS $13.59 or US $13.67 per coin.
