This month’s featured sets belong to Seareveler and NTG Black Swan.
We must give a nod to not just one but two unique Classic U.S. NGC Registry sets for our June news. As noted in the recent NGC news article, Great Collections has offered two remarkable vintage U.S. gold coins for auction.
First, we present the 1879 Flowing Hair $4 Stella graded NGC PF-65+ Cameo coin. This remarkable and lustrous coin lives in Searelever’s Gold Four-Dollar Stellas, 1879-1880, Proof Set. While Seareveler’s set is not at 100% completion, it does reflect his dedication to quality over quantity with his high-grade examples. The striking 1879 $4 Stella just achieved an auction price of $258,750, including the buyer’s fee.
Next, stop and admire NTG Black Swan’s 1915-S Panama Pacific Round $50 graded NGC MS-64, found in his Gold Commemoratives, 1903-1926, Complete Set. As of the writing of this article, the auction price has climbed to $67,500 with plenty of time left for several increases. With less than 500 of these minted, one can only wonder where the buck will stop with this rare beauty.
Be sure to view both NTG Black Swan’s Classic Gold Commemorative Gallery and Seareveler’s Gold Four-Dollar Stella Proof Gallery. They are both worth watching. NTG currently sits in first place in his category, and Seareveler has climbed to an impressive ninth place thus far out of 171 sets.
