The Perth Mint has released the latest “Mini Roo.” This diminutive legal tender coin contains 0.5 grams (0.016 troy ounces) of .9999 fine gold. Introduced in 2010, the coins were conceived as a way of allowing more people to have the opportunity for gold ownership by providing a very low price point.
The 2012 Mini Roo features a kangaroo in outback Australia with a windmill and water tank in the background. An inscription indicates the weight and fineness of “0.5 gram 9999 gold”. The designer of the reverse is Wade Robinson. On the obverse of the coin is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, along with inscriptions indicating the “2012” date and “2 Dollars” legal tender denomination.
The button-sized coins have a diameter of 11.60 mm and a thickness of 0.70 mm. Each coin is housed in a protective capsule and presented on a wallet sized card.
Released on March 27, 2012, the coins are priced at AUS $54.09 excluding the GST component. For additional information and ordering, please visit the Perth Mint’s product page.
