On August 8, the James Monroe Presidential Silver Medal (S805) will be released at 12 noon (ET). The medal features the fifth president of the United States, James Monroe, who is associated with the prosperous “Era of Good Feelings.” Each medal contains one troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver and measures 1.6 inches in diameter. The medal contains no product, mintage, or household order limits and possesses a Matte finish. This medal is currently priced at $39.95 on the Mint’s website.
The obverse, designed and engraved by Moritz Furst, features a side profile portrait of President James Monroe. Around the border of the medal are inscriptions JAMES MONROE, PRESIDENT OF THE U.S., and A.D. 1817.
The reverse, designed and engraved by John Reich, depicts two clasped hands: One bare, and the other with a cuff on the wrist with three stripes and buttons. Above the two hands are the pipe of peace and the tomahawk, which are crossed. The inscription reads PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP.
