The Monnaie de Paris has released the second series which highlights the lovable mouse from the World of Disney as he sets off on a once-in-a-lifetime tour of France. The famous mouse discovers France and as he stops at many of the country’s most exciting and familiar landmarks, Mickey Mouse shows how much of a shutter-bug he is by taking scads of Polaroid instant photos of each city, province, and region he visits as a souvenir, and, it is these images which are captured on the over 20 €10 silver coins. The series is in celebration of the 90th birthday of Mickey Mouse, with the Monnaie de Paris compiling a gold and silver euro collector coin series entitled “Mickey & la France” for the occasion.
Created in 1928 by Walt Disney, Mickey represents strong values such as friendship, enthusiasm, braveness, and optimism. He is timeless and unique and has conquered many generations throughout the world, maintaining a privileged link with France. As France is visited by the famous cartoon character, Mickey Mouse has truly become an emblematic character and an icon within the icons of the comics and cartoon world.
The second wave of the 10 coins that record Mickey’s journey completes the series of 20 €10 silver coins. The reverse side of all the coins shares a common reverse, which shows the face value 10 EURO surrounded by two branches (oak and laurel) that evoke the euro symbol. The entire reverse motif is framed in a hexagonal design representing the stylised, geopolitical shape of France. Two silver €50 coins and two colourised €50 silver coins, as well as a €200 gold coin complete this collection and show the highlights of Mickey’s trip to France.
