The Perth Mint of Australia has started accepting orders for the 2014 Forever Love 1/2 oz. Silver Proof Coin. This popular annual release makes a perfect Valentine’s Day or wedding gift.
The reverse design of the coin features a depiction of two Major Mitchell Cockatoos. They are perched on a heart shaped branch with bush flowers and leaves with one bird presenting its mate with a sprig of gum blossoms. The words “Forever Love” appear above, with “1/2 oz 999 Silver” below.
The Major Mitchell Cockatoo is one of Australia’s most beautiful birds. It has pink feathers across its face, chest, and belly, with pure white tail feathers and a brilliant red and yellow striped crest. The birds are regarded as representative of true love since they mate for life and can live several decades.
The obverse of the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include the “2014” date and monetary denomination of “50 cents”. The coins are issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.
Each coin is struck in 1/2 oz. of 99.9% pure silver with a diameter of 36.60 mm and thickness of 2.30 mm. The coins are housed in a classic presentation case with a colored shipper and limited to a mintage of 7,500 pieces.
