Background
Once again, CIT has succeeded in translating a highly topical sentiment into a coin design. Second Skin is dedicated to all those who, day after day, night after night, slip into the skin of a digital avatar in order to experience adventures in the infinite spheres of the Internet that the gray reality of the 21st century can no longer offer them.
Transforming this concept into a coin design was both an artistic and a technological challenge. It is a testament to the skill of CIT’s graphic designers that both the real man and his virtual second skin have a recognizable face. The technological mastery required to produce the small rectangles of the second skin in Proof quality despite the ultra-high smartminting relief can only be truly appreciated by those who follow the latest developments in minting technology. The way in which frosted and Proof surfaces interact with each other in contrast to the black coloring of the field is simply brilliant.
Similar to the “Trapped” series, Second Skin plays with associations with the world of modern media. The idea of real people becoming prisoners of a digital counter-world has become a common theme.
