The Perth Mint of Australia has recently released 2012 Year of the Dragon Gold Coins for the Chinese Astrological Series. The coins are issued as legal tender under the authority of the government of Tuvalu and carry limited mintages.
People born within the date range of January 13, 2012 to February 9, 2013 are said to be born in the Year of the Dragon. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be confident, enterprising, independent, self-assured, brave, and passionate.
The reverse designs for the three available coins feature a caricature of a dragon and the Chinese character for either prosperity, longevity, or success (Fu, Lu, and Shou). Inscriptions indicate the gold content and purity “1/5 oz 9999 gold” and the legal tender face value “$30”.
The obverse of each coin contains the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the date “2012”.
Each coin contains one-fifth of an ounce of gold. The diameter is 22.60 mm and thickness is 1.50 mm.
The Perth Mint offers the “Prosperity” coin individually with a limit of 2,000 individual coins. A two coin set containing the “Prosperity” and “Longevity” coins is limited to 2,000 sets. Finally, a three coin set containing “Prosperity”, “Longevity”, and “Success” coins is limited to 2,000 sets. The coins or sets are housed in presentation cases with a timber lid and stylized shipper, and include a numbered certificate of authenticity.
