Austria: Third silver coin in colourful “Language of Flowers” series features magnificent marigold

The Austrian Mint has launched the third coin in their innovative “The Language of Flowers” series, with the latest design focusing on the marigold. The giving and receiving of a floral gift is the focus of this series launched last year and brings this age-old custom back to life by discussing the meanings, folklore, properties, and uses of seven well-known flowers. 

Designed by Helmut Andexlinger, Kathrin Kuntner, and Rebecca Wilding, the marigold is delicately illustrated on the coin’s obverse with a front-facing young woman, eyes closed, holding a long-stemmed marigold in her left hand, bringing it up closer to her face. She is surrounded by blooms of marigolds and butterflies in her hair. The denomination of 10 EURO and the country REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, along with the year of issue 2022, is also included in the design and along the lower edge.

The coin’s reverse features an imprint of two long-stemmed real marigolds centred. As part of the design process in replicating flowers, none of the principal flower images in the series is based on any particular drawing or illustration.

Available from the 15th September, each Proof coin is encapsulated and presented in a heavy gauge card case complete with a numbered certificate of authenticity and protective slipcase. The Brilliant Uncirculated coins are presented in a blister pack folder with illustrations and informative text.
