The Thorny Devil Lizard is featured within the second release of the Australia’s Remarkable Reptiles series struck by the Perth Mint. The first release within the annual coin series had carried a depiction of the Frilled Neck Lizard.
The design of the latest coin features a colored portrait of the Thorny Devil in defense mode, with the sharp spines and thorns which cover its body protecting it from attack. The image is bordered by a montage of reptile skin patterns. An inscription at the base reads “Thorny Devil Lizard”.
The obverse of the coin contains the Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the monetary denomination and 2014-date. These coins are issued as legal tender under the authority of the government of Tuvalu.
Each coin is struck from 1 oz of 99.9% silver to proof quality with a diameter of 40.60 mm. The maximum mintage is established at 5,000 pieces.
The coins are packaged in a wooden presentation case with custom designed shipper and numbered certificate of authenticity.
