The Perth Mint of Australia has announced the details and revealed the design for the 2011 Australian Silver Koala. The 99.9% silver coins featuring the iconic marsupial are available in four different sizes. The weight and purity of each coin are assured by the Australian government.
The 2011 Silver Koala features an image of an adult and young koala in the fork of a tree. An inscription above reads “Australian Koala” with the date “2011”, purity “999 Silver”, and bullion weight indicated below. The Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark appears to the right of the young koala. Since the series was introduced in 2007, a unique depiction of one or more koalas has been featured on the reverse design for each year.
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with inscriptions “Elizabeth II”, “Australia”, and the legal tender face value.
Available sizes for the 2011 Silver Koala will include 1/2 ounce, 1 ounce, 10 ounce, and 1 kilo sizes. Coins will be available worldwide distribution starting October 4, 2010. There will be no mintage limit for any of the options, although production will conclude at the end of 2011.
