The United States Mint has started accepting orders for the 2015-W American Gold Eagle One Ounce Uncirculated Coin. This represents a numismatic version of the popular bullion coin.
The obverse design of the coin features the classic depiction of Lady Liberty from the circulating double eagle gold coin designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty is depicted in full length, holding a lit torch and an olive branch as she steps confidently forward. The rays of the rising sun and the US Capitol building appear in the background along with a ring of fifty stars surrounding.
On the reverse is a depiction of a family of eagles designed by Miley Busiek. This design was created for the American Gold Eagle and has been used for each issue of the series since 1986. A male eagle is depicted carrying an olive branch to a nest containing a female eagle and her eaglets.
The 2015-W American Gold Eagle Uncirculated Coin is struck in a composition of 22 karat (91.67%) gold and contains one troy ounce of pure gold. This collector version is struck on a specially burnished blank and carries the “W” mint mark to denote mintage at the West Point Mint.
Each coin is encapsulated in plastic and placed in a presentation case. A certificate of authenticity is also included.
The initial price for the coin is $1,475.00 plus applicable shipping and handling. The price of the coin may be adjusted weekly based on the average market price of gold.
The US Mint has not established a maximum mintage limit for this offering. There are no household ordering limits in place.
