Next year the first America the Beautiful Quarters will be released. The program will feature rotating reverse designs depicting a National Park or other national site from each state, territory, and the District of Columbia. The entire register of sites was released on September 9, 2009. The locations will be presented in the order they were first recognized as national sites.
The first five quarters to be released in 2010 will feature:
- Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas
- Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming
- Yosemite National Park in California
- Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona
- Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon
The US Mint recently released three or four design candidates for each quarter. These design candidates were reviewed by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee and the Commission of Fine Arts. (Read about the CFA’s design recommendations.) After additional feedback from the governor of each jurisdiction and the Department of the Interior, the United States Mint will make a recommendation to the Secretary of the Treasury, who is responsible for the final design selection.
