The Perth Mint of Australia has unveiled the designs for the 2013 Year of the Snake Gold and Silver Bullion Coins. The .9999 gold and .999 silver coins are part of the Australian Lunar Series II, which features the twelve animals of China’s ancient lunar calendar. A wide array of sizes are available, most of which will be available for worldwide release on September 3, 2012.
People born within the date range of February 10, 2013 to January 30, 2014 will be born within the Year of the Snake. Previous date ranges have included the years 1917,1929,1941,1953,1965,1977,1989, and 2001. People born under the influence of this sign as said to be intelligent, graceful, independent, analytical, and charming.
The reverse design of the gold coin features a snake amongst grass and bamboo shoots with the Chinese character for “Snake”. An inscription below reads “Year of the Snake” with also the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark. The reverse design for the silver coin features a snake curled around a tree branch. The obverse of both coins contains the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the date “2013”, the precious metal weight and fineness, and the legal tender denomination.
The 2013 Year of the Snake Gold Coins are struck in .9999 purity and available in sizes ranging from 1/20 ounce to 10 kilo. No more than 30,000 of the 1 ounce size coins will be produced. A maximum of 100 will apply to the 10 kilo coins, which will be produced on a mint to order basis. The remaining sizes of 1/20 ounce, 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce, 2 ounce, 10 ounce, and 1 kilo will not carry a mintage limit, although production will close at the end of 2013.
The release date for the gold bullion coins will be September 3, 2012, with the exception of the 10 kilo size, which will be available at a later date. Certain numismatic versions will go on sale at the Perth Mint on September 4, 2012 at 12:01 AWST.

A maximum of 200 of the 10 kilo coins will be produced on a mint to order basis. The remaining sizes of 1/2 ounce, 2 ounce, 5 ounce, 10 ounce, and 1 kilo will not carry a mintage limit, however production will close at the end of 2013.
The release date for the silver bullion coins will be September 3, 2012, with the exception of the 10 kilo size, which will be available at a later date. Certain numismatic versions will go on sale at the Perth Mint on September 4, 2012 at 12:01 AWST.
