While collectors eagerly await the first 2010 coins and related numismatic products, sales of 2009-dated material continues at the United States Mint. The latest weekly sales report shows a drop off in sales levels for some products and the debut of sales for the recently released Zachary Taylor $1 Coin Cover.
Gold coins sold at higher levels than the prior week, perhaps in response to the strong performance of gold in the first week of the new year. The 2009 Gold Buffalo Proof Coin sold 1,089 coins compared to 555 coins in the prior week. The total sales have now reached 43,719. First Spouse Gold Coins sold a combined 407 coins compared to 330 in the prior week. The best selling coins were the Margaret Taylor proof and uncirculated coins.
Sales for the US Mint's 2009-dated annual sets fell from the levels of the prior week. Last weeks higher numbers may have been attributed to collectors and dealers placing their final orders for the sets before the close of the year. Now many are simply awaiting the debut of the new 2010-dated sets.
The Zachary Taylor Presidential Dollar Coin Cover, which was released on December 30, 2009, makes its first appearance on the sales report with 18,075 units sold.
