During the period covered by the latest weekly US Mint numismatic sales report, there were a number of products that experienced suspensions, price increases, or sell outs. Much of this activity was driven by higher precious metals prices.
The rising price of silver has led to suspensions for more US Mint numismatic products containing 90% silver coins. On April 8, the US Mint suspended sales of the 2010 Silver Proof Set and 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. Yesterday, on April 18, suspensions of the 2011 Silver Proof Set and 2011 ATB Silver Proof Set followed. The prices for these products had been established about a month ago when silver was $35 per ounce. With silver now above $43 per ounce, the intrinsic value of the products was approaching the US Mint's issue price.
New higher prices for these products must be established through a process involving publication in the Federal Register, which can take several weeks to accomplish. If the price of silver continues to move quickly, there may be extended or additional suspensions, which will impact the overall sales levels.
The US Mint has a separate pricing policy applicable for certain numismatic gold and platinum products that allows price changes to be implemented on a weekly basis. On April 14, this policy was used to increase the prices for the 2010 Proof Gold Buffalo and remaining 2010 First Spouse Gold Coins. Since these pricing changes can be anticipated in advance, collectors may have accelerated purchases in the last sales period, accounting for generally lower sales figures in the current period.
Recently sold out products include the uncirculated version of the James Buchanan's Liberty Gold Coin and the Hot Springs National Park Quarter numismatic bags and rolls. The former is the fifth of the 2010-dated First Spouse coins to sell out. The end of sales for the Hot Springs Quarter products was expected. For the ATB Quarter bags and rolls, the US Mint indicates that sales will continue for one year from the start of sales.

The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Figures followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available for sale from the United States Mint. Figures in bold make their debut on this report. I do not see the figures for the “2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set”. They started selling on 4/1 and
just curious how many sold before they stopped sales on the 18th.
