The latest weekly United States Mint numismatic product sales report includes the opening figures for the 2013 Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Dollar bags, rolls, and boxes. Sales of gold and platinum products were markedly slower, following the decline in precious metals market prices.
On April 11, 2013 the US Mint began accepting orders for circulating quality Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Dollars across a range of different options. This represented the twenty sixth release of the Presidential $1 Coin Program, with the coins now only distributed through numismatic channels. Many collectors have looked forward to this release in particular, as one of the better known Presidents who has not previously been featured on a legal tender U.S. coin.
Across the available 25-coin rolls, 100-coin bags, 250-coin boxes, and 500-coin boxes from either the Philadelphia and Denver Mint facilities, total sales reached 3,430,350 coins. Surprisingly, this is about 19% lower than the opening sales total for the previous William McKinley Dollars. A partial explanation for the slower start is the fact that the opening figures for McKinley reflect an additional two days of sales. Still, many collectors likely expected to see a stronger start for the Teddy Roosevelt Dollars.
Sales slowed to a trickle for the higher ticket platinum and gold products. The 2012 Proof Platinum Eagle sold 10 units, and the 2012 First Spouse Gold Coins sold 50 units across the eight available options. The products containing the 5-Star Generals $5 Gold Coin fared better, with 443 coins sold individually and 621 coins sold as included in the 3-Coin Proof Set.
Prices for gold and platinum numismatic products are due to be reduced on Wednesday in the regular weekly cycle, which may bring back some buying activity.
The complete US Mint numismatic product sales report appears below. These figures are compiled through April 15, 2013. The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Products which make their debut on this report are shown in bold. Products with sales followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available from the United States Mint. Currently available US Mint products can be found online at http://catalog.usmint.gov/

Middle of April and still no on-sale dates for either 1st Spouse or 5 oz ATB (10 coins) Not cool.
I’m surprised there has been no reported increase in America the Beautiful Uncirc 5 OZ Silver 2012-P Hawaii Volcanoes coins lately. I, and many others, had ordered that coin back in January and our orders had been in “Backordered” status until last week, when the Mint finally charged credit cards and shipped the coins.
Bilbo,
I think for the AtBs this year will look very much like last year, with the AtBs being released in early to mid June when the mint gives up on delaying them. If the mint is holding them back in hopes silver would rise, I imagine they’re feeling pretty embarrassed about now.
I must express my surprise with Roosevelt’s sales. I really thought we’d see at least a modest surge given his popularity, but apparently not.
Hi, does anyone know why the FSs unc. repriced to $920 today from $970 instead of to in the 800s? Are they not obeying their own pricing grid? Expect sales not to move on such a measley pricedrop.
The prices are determined based on a weekly average, which was still in the $1,450 to $1,499 range.
The 2012 FSs are actually cheaper at Apmex than at the mint. $877 there vs $920 at the mint.
APMEX prices went up with the recent rise of gold spot price, it’s at around $905/ea now (still cheaper than USMint)….. however, one have to consider that APMEX also selling graded coins so there’s a high probability that APMEX will hand pick the nicer looking coins for grade submission. It’s something to consider, even if you don’t plan on get your raw coins grade.
