Once again there are a number of products that have sold out during the period covered by the latest weekly United States Mint numismatic product sales report. The recent sell outs include the 2012 Proof Gold Buffalo, the one ounce 2012 Proof Gold Eagle, and the remaining circulating quality "S" mint marked 2012 America the Beautiful Quarter products.
The 2012 Proof Gold Buffalo sold out after roughly ten months of availability. The one ounce 24 karat gold coins had cumulative sales of 19,765, which is well below the total of 28,693 for the previous year issue and represents the lowest sales since the 2008 key date.
The individual one ounce 2012 Proof Gold Eagle has also sold out after reaching sales of 14,848. This joins the previously sold out individual one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one tenth ounce coins. With all of the individual options unavailable, sales of the remaining four coin set option saw a big boost to 1,563 units for the weekly period, bringing the cumulative total to 7,298 sets.
A surge in sales for the 40-coin rolls 2012-S Denali National Park Quarter rolls hastened a sell out. The US Mint's new product line of bags and rolls containing circulating quality quarters with the "S" mint mark started to attract some collector focus after other designs started selling out sooner than anticipated. The Denali rolls, which were the last release, had only been available for less than three months.
In this week's report the 2013 Birth Set makes its debut at 4,273 units. This product is intended to mark the arrival of a newborn baby and contains five 2013-dated proof coins.
The complete US Mint numismatic product sales report appears below. Unless otherwise noted, the figures are compiled through January 21, 2013. The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Products listed in bold make their debut on this report. Products with sales followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available from the United States Mint. Currently available US Mint products can be found online at http://catalog.usmint.gov/

I double checked my math and if current sales figures hold it appears the Hawaii and Acadia “S” mint uncirculated quality quarters came out with an exact mintage of 1,409,120 each!
That’s an amazing jump in the sales of the AGE four coin set. I wonder who is buying them? Possibly dealers taking a gamble?
Interestingly enough there still doesn’t appear to have been much sales growth for the uncirculated 2012-W ASE. I thought we might see a big leap in sales with the mixture of the silver shortage and the sudden sellouts of 2012 products.
Can anyone tell me what the historical low mintage is for the W Proof 1 ounce gold eagle? What does this final number for 2012 mean relative to past sales/mintages?
CO: I put an order for the 2012 unc silver eagles last week and found out I couldn’t cancel 4 minutes after the order was placed.I somehow had a roll of 2010 pennys in my cart.Next weeks report might see a jump in sales.
The lowest mintage one ounce proof gold eagle is the 2001 @ 24,555. Total sales for the 2012 @ 22,146 and still climbing.
The thing I find most surprising is the sellout of the Hawaii 5-ouncers.
Does anyone else think that the “sudden sellout” of the Hawaii ATB 5oz coins is suspicious?
I have collected all 5 oz ATB’s to date and was holding off on buying the Hawaii and Denali coins because of my holiday spending budget. The Hawaii coin only went on sale in September. The majority of the 2011 ATB’s remained on sale throughout 2012 until they sold as many as they could.
I think it is completely unfair that the Mint advertises a mintage limit of 25,000 for all ATB’s then SUDDENLY decides to halt sales at will. I don’t know what others think but I believe something is highly suspicious. The problem I have is this: 3 ATB’s have been out longer and remain on sale.
2012-P El Yunque National Forest
2012-P Chaco Culture National Historical Park
2012-P Acadia National Park
Why would the Hawaii Volcanoes coin suddenly “sell out” with less sales?
While this is good for the collector who bought the coin, it sucks for those of us who haven’t because we must now pay a ridiculous price for a coin that should still be on sale from the mint.
This is yet another BAD move from the mint and discourages average collectors such as myself.
If we can’t rely on the data the mint publishes – ie. MINTAGE LIMITS – why even publish a number at all? Why not just leave us guessing as to how many coins will be minted? (ie. to demand) If no Mintage Numbers are published/or given out (to dealers) – it then becomes a level playing field for all (dealers and collectors alike). YES i get that the mint reserves the right to halt production/mintage at any time but that doesn’t make it right! It’s one thing if the coin that was halted was the first 2012 coin (2012-P El Yunque National Forest ) but it’s not. It make NO SENSE. Just my opinion from a frustrated collector
