The latest weekly United States Mint numismatic product sales report includes the debut figures for the recently released Lou Hoover First Spouse Gold Coins. Updated figures are also available for the 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half Dollar products.
On August 14, 2014, the US Mint began accepting orders for the 2014 Lou Hoover First Spouse Gold Coins, representing the third release of the series for the year. The coins are struck in one-half ounce of 24 karat gold and available in proof or uncirculated version with a combined maximum mintage of 10,000 pieces.
Through the reporting date of August 17, sales for the Lou Hoover coins have reached 955 proofs and 638 uncirculated coins for a combined total of 1,593 pieces. The prior release featuring Grace Coolidge had opened with combined sales of 1,541 pieces. The next prior release featuring Florence Harding had opened at 1,481.
The 2014 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half Dollar Gold Proof Coins saw little growth in cumulative sales over the past week. Since the prior report sales have increased by 1,180 units to 63,521. The product had reached opening day sales of 56,694 units on August 4, growing to 61,700 by the following day. After this point sales had stalled reaching 62,341 by August 10 and now 63,521 through August 17.
The 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half Dollar Uncirculated Coin Set containing two copper-nickel halves with the original portrait design saw its pace of sales slower. The set had opening day sales of 68,974 units on July 24. By July 27 sales had risen to 84,593, then to 97,655 on August 3, and 112,134 on August 10. On the current report through August 17, sales have grown by 4,803 to 116,937 units.
Both 50th Anniversary Kennedy products continue to be subject to an ordering limit of five units per household. The Mint intends to produce the products to meet customer demand.
The complete US Mint numismatic product sales report appears below. The figures are compiled through August 17, 2014. The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Products which make their debut on this week’s report are shown in bold. Products with sales followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available from the United States Mint. Goodness gracious. What’s up with the 2013 Uncirculated set? A few weeks ago, it was briefly “no longer available” and then it was back on sale – perhaps we can ascribe that to confusion with the 2013 Proof set, which sold out around the same time. Then on (Sunday?) it was again “no longer available” and now (Wednesday) it’s back on sale again. The number of sets sold (so far) is the lowest in decades; I’ve got about 80 of them, and I’d REALLY like them to sell out soon! The suspense is killing me.
Sorry for the typo in my name.
I have reached out the the US Mint for an explanation. Will relay any response here or on Mint News Blog.
And another thing! (Don’t get me started.)
The 2013 Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set is supposedly “available for shipping 09/04/2014,” or in a little over two weeks. Since early August, it’s always available two weeks in the future. According to this week’s report, the sales volume was minus 3, and if I recall correctly, last week it was +1, so in fact they don’t seem to be delivering any. Or if they are, they’re just recycling returns.
The individual 2013-W Silver Eagles sold out some time ago, so one assumes that whatever Eagles are already packaged in the Dollar Sets are all that remain. So, again, what’s up? Are they sold out or not, and if not, why isn’t the Mint delivering?
Hey I thought Gold coins went with the Weds London pm fix. How come we didn’t see a drop in prices? It’s at $1295.
Can you recheck the figures for the Proof/Unc Baseball Hall of Fame Dollars. Something’s not right there. Thanks.
The gold coin prices depend on both the weekly average from prior Thursday to current Wednesday and the Wednesday PM Fix. Since the average was still within 1300-1349.99, there was no price change.
I rechecked the BHOF numbers and these are what the Mint is reporting. There was a shift in numbers for the proof/unc silver dollars compared to last week.
The increase/decrease numbers are backwards on your BHoF SIlver coins, although the totals are correct. Total coins sold are 399,079, leaving a few hundred left in (or returned to) inventory. Perhaps these are sub-standard returns; maybe they will be available by phone. In any case, Proofs increased by 5569 and uncirculateds decreased by 6490.
