The latest weekly United States Mint numismatic sales report includes the debut figures for the Great Basin National Park Quarter products. The second reported figures for the 2013-W Uncirculated Gold Eagle are also available.
On June 10, 2013, the US Mint began accepting orders for Great Basin Quarters in numismatic bags and rolls. The available products incorporated circulating quality coins with the “P” and “D” mint marks, which are also issued for circulation, as well as coins with the “S” mint mark, which are only released within numismatic products.
Through the reporting date of June 17, 2013, sales have been recorded for 1,874 of the 100-coin (P) bags, 1,840 of the 100-coin (D) bags, and 3,146 of the 100-coin (S) bags. The most popular Two Roll Set option (P,D) had sales of 9,894 units, followed by 4,607 units for the Three Roll sets (P,D,S), and 3,146 units for the single roll option (S). Compared to the debut figures for the previous releases including Perry’s Victory Quarters, the individual 100-coin bags (P,D) and Two Roll Set (P,D) showed declines. A gain was registered for the Three Roll Set option (P,D,S), with the remaining options flat.
The 2013-W Uncirculated Gold Eagle makes its second appearance on the weekly report. This represents a collectible uncirculated option for the popular bullion coin, which is struck on specially burnished blanks and carries the “W” mint mark. Sales increased by 1,252 units for the week, bringing the cumulative total to 2,700 units. The relatively strong second week may have been driven in part by a $50 per coin price decrease made effective during the period covered by the report.
The full US Mint numismatic product sales report appears below. These figures are compiled through June 17, 2013. The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Products which make their debut on this report are shown in bold. Products with sales followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available from the United States Mint. Currently available US Mint products can be found online at http://catalog.usmint.gov/

My spouse has a theory that stuff appealing to boomers is going away as the boomers do. Is there any other way to rationalize the continued declines in coin product sales?
Boz, i agree somewhat. Local dealers keep telling me the “new guys” don’t care about coins, all they want is gold and silver. At 40 years old, I gues I am kind of in the middle……I only collect gold/silver coins; I don’t care about clad coins, and I don’t care about gold or silver bars, but add the two together, and i’m hooked. Some argue that the reduced mintages make this a great time to collect; who knows what people will be into 40 years from now….if it comes full circle, this could be a golden age of collecting.
Declines in coin product sales? What are you talking about? Gold and silver coin sales are at a RECORD and the Mint can’t keep up with demand. Grading companies like PCGS have huge backlogs and have also had record sales.
There has been a decline in the collectible
versions the mint issues. The commemorative
gold and silver. The gold Unc. Eagle. The
First Spouse gold. Yes the bullion versions
are through the roof with demand. However, the coin collecters Mint products are on the
decline as far as purchases which mean lower
mintages.
Michael, Thanks for the updates, I prefer reading yours.
Do you think the US Mint will reduce the price of the ATB P 5 oz quarters since silver went down 34% YTD like they do weekly with their gold numismatic coins? If so, when how by how much? Has the US Mint spoken on this issue at all in the past week or months?
Also a long term investor for my 13 month old lovebug do you think the ATB Bullion or Numismatic P’s are the better price with the current prices of $110-125 compared to $179.95 (+$5 shipping/order)?
Thanks in advance for your response!
I started collecting in Q4 2012 with a Denali 5oz purchase. Since then, 3-4 people at work have started collecting, and so have 2 other friends. We’re all in our 20s and 30s and everyone buys silver, and a few of us also buy gold. We couldn’t care less about the non PM US Mint coins. We collect what we hope will be rare PM coins. Its really hard to get into clad coins. JUst boring to us newbs. PM is def exciting tho. Even tho we’ve all lost $$ on it and we all got in at what now seems like the wrong time.
It would be amazing, when all is said and done, to see a full set of ATB 5 ouncers all assembled together.
