The latest sales figures are available for the United States Mint’s numismatic products. With no new releases during the week or other major shifts, this article will take focus on the commemorative coins, which will soon complete their sales cycle.
Two commemorative coin programs were authorized for 2012. The first celebrates the bicentennial of the writing of the Star Spangled Banner with the issuance of $5 gold coins and silver dollars. Available product options include individual proof or uncirculated coins, a two coin proof set, and a Bicentennial Silver Dollar Set. Across all product options, the silver dollars have sold 186,372 coins out of the maximum authorized mintage of 500,00. The $5 gold coins have sold a combined 21,178 out of the 100,000 maximum mintage.
The second program includes the issuance of silver dollars in commemoration of the legacy of the U.S. Army Infantry and the establishment of the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center. Available products include individual proof and uncirculated coins as well as the Defenders of Freedom Set. Across all options, sales have reached 190,747 out of the maximum mintage of 350,000.
The United States Mint recently announced that the ordering period for these coins will officially close on December 17, 2012 at 5:00 PM ET.
The full US Mint numismatic product sales report appears below. Unless otherwise noted, the figures are compiled through November 7, 2012. The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Products with sales followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available from the United States Mint. Currently available US Mint products can be found online at http://catalog.usmint.gov/
