The latest weekly United States Mint numismatic product sales report shows another slow week across most categories. The summer months typically exhibit some slowness, but in addition to seasonality, there are a few other factors which may be having an impact.
In late June, the US Mint indicated that a price reduction was being considered for silver numismatic products. Collectors who closely follow the news may have delayed purchases for such products until the price reduction becomes effective. This week, details of the reductions were finally published. Lower prices will be put into effect on July 11 for nearly all silver numismatic products, which may spur some sales after the change.
For two weeks running, a price reduction for gold and platinum numismatic products has been possible. For these products the US Mint may adjust prices as frequently as weekly based on the average market price of the metals. Fluctuations in the price of gold and platinum have led to a few price changes which almost occurred but were scrapped at the last moment. As with the silver products, some collectors may delay purchases in anticipation of price reductions. More generally, some collectors may also be waiting to see some signs of a reversal in the trend for gold prices.
Another factor adding to the summer doldrums may be the lack of new product releases from the United States Mint. It has been more than two weeks without a major product release. The Great Basin Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin was scheduled for release during this period, but the products was pulled as the pricing was being reconsidered. The five 2013-dated First Spouse Gold Coins have also remained notably absent from the release schedule this year.
With the silver pricing situation now resolved and some new products finally on the horizon, there may some more activity in the sales reports in the coming weeks.
The full US Mint numismatic product sales report appears below. These figures are compiled through July 7, 2013. The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Products which make their debut on this report are shown in bold. Products with sales followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available from the United States Mint. Currently available US Mint products can be found online at http://catalog.usmint.gov/

I’ve lost interest until the Spouse coins appear.
Jess,
I ordered the first day and received my order last week. There are lots of people who are not big boys who have their coins, but I agree the shipping order has been weird.
It should not be surprising that the Mint favors the rich. Congress has been favoring the rich big time for at least the last two generations and I see no end in sight – the only end is the end of our democracy, replaced by a plutocracy. It’s a shame – it was a noble experiment, but no democracy in the history of the world has ever lasted much longer than a couple hundred years or so.
I cancelled my WP ASE sets ordered on the last day available, was to ship in September. Still waiting for my 1st day ordered sets, ship date has varied from June to August, presently the mint says July 19. Anyone wanting them RIGHT NOW can check previous posts listing the Philly mint store phone number. They may still have some left.
Just got the Mint notice for the Reverse Proof Buff release Aug 8, available for 1 month. Hopefully with the high price – $1590.00 to $1640.00 or more, (okay, more ),– we won’t have the same stampede and backorder problems…..
Mike– Prev post should be named “silverhawk357”. Don’t know what happened!
I emailed the mint and complained to them about the way they haved shipped the WP set. They said they shipped them first in, first out which I already knew. They also said they had only shipped 45,000 sets so far. Why couldn’t they have limited it to 5 sets per household for the first week or something like that so we could get sets in a timely manner. So it looks like 3 or 4 orders probably took up 90% of the orders that were ready to be shipped. HLN purchased 20,000 according to the “Coin King” himself and “the Coin Vault has ordered thousands as well. I still say the mint as blown it yet again!!! Frankly I was shocked when they said they had only shipped 45,000 sets. For some reason I was thinking they had 150,000 sets ready before the ordering even began. Who knows. All I know is I too am done with the mint, maybe even the hobby!!! Gettin tired of dealin with “glorified” used car salesman!!!
I cancelled my 10 sets that were ordered the first day….Got tired of the games…Last straw was the ship date of July 19 that came and went without shipment of course.
I figure the mint knows of the significance of that day (First Strike cutoff) and was trying to keep people from cancelling in the hope of shipment.
Good Luck to all…CAPTN
