Updated sales figures are now available for the United States Mint's numismatic products. The total number of 2010 Proof Silver Eagles reported sold has more than doubled from the previous report, and the Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coins have debuted.
Note that the previous sales report was issued two weeks ago, so the current report reflects two weeks of sales data for most products.
The 2010 Proof Silver Eagle added sales of 434,492 since the last report, to reach 707,704. The popular product went on sale at the US Mint on November 19, 2010. Initially, the coins were limited to 100 units per household, but the limit was removed late last week. The total sales for this year's coin now exceeded the final audited mintage for the 2008 Proof Silver Eagle, which was 700,979.
On December 2, 2010, the proof and uncirculated versions of the Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coin went on sale. With the expectation of higher demand for this well known First Lady, the US Mint established a maximum mintage of 20,000 across both versions. This was 5,000 greater than the level set for the other 2010 releases of the series. Through the sales reporting date, there were 3,635 proof coins and 1,870 uncirculated coins sold, for a total of 5,505 across both options. This is actually lower than the debut for the previous release of the series. The James Buchanan's Liberty Gold Coin had debuted with combined sales of 6,127.
Annual sets continued to move higher, possibly related to purchase for the gift giving season. The 2010 Proof Set saw total sales just under one million, at 978,016. The 2010 Mint Set exceeded the 500,000 mark.
