The latest US Mint numismatic product sales report includes the debut figures for two recently released products. Even though most gold products were suspended for the majority of the reporting period, sales were up nearly across the board.
The Lucy Hayes First Spouse Gold Coins went on sale at the US Mint on September 1, 2011. Less than 24 hours later sales were suspended due to a sharp rise in the market price of gold. Sales are expected to finally resume today, with prices adjusted based on the average gold price for the previous week.
Despite the short period of availability, the Lucy Hayes coins sold 1,265 proof and 857 uncirculated coins, for a combined total of 2,122. This compares to opening sales figures of 2,108 for the Eliza Johnson coin and 2,598 for the Julia Grant coin. The opening sales figures for these two previous releases covered four days of availability.
Also debuting on this week's sales report are the Vicksburg National Military Park Quarter bags and rolls. This coin represents the ninth release in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. Orders were received for 2,457 of the 100-coin bags from Philadelphia, 2,379 of the 100-coin bags from Denver, and 18,719 of the two roll sets. These figures are around the same levels as the debut numbers for the previous Olympic National Park Quarter products.
As mentioned, sales of numismatic gold products were strong, despite being suspended over the Labor Day weekend. All gold products recorded higher sales than the previous week, with the exception of the Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coins. Of note, the total sales of the individual one ounce 2011 Prof Gold Eagle have reached 29,917, which is nearly at the maximum product limit of 30,000. The coin is also available as part of the four coin set.

The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Products with sales followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available from the United States Mint. Products in bold make their debut on this report. Sales for the AGE unc increased a little this week. Total sales are currently @ 5,508. Any guesstiments on what total sales figures might be? Maybe less than the 8,883 mintage for the 2008 1/4 oz unc AGE? I guess only time will tell.
