US Mint Sales: Gold Coin Sales Resilient
The latest weekly US Mint sales report shows the continued strength in numismatic gold coin sales, even amidst steadily rising prices. The Mint currently offers the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle, 2009 Proof Gold Buffalo, and five different First Spouse Gold Coins in uncirculated and proof versions. As the spot price of gold has risen, prices for these coins have been adjusted upwards three times in the last six weeks with the most recent adjustment put into effect this past Wednesday.
The 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle had weekly sales of 1,123 coins, bringing the year to date total to 107,076 coins. The 2009 Proof Gold Buffalo sold another 2,597 coins to bring the total to 37,885. A total of 661 First Spouse Gold Coins were sold across the various options. Sales were strongest for Martin Van Buren's Liberty Gold Coin, which will only be available for another two days, and the Sarah Polk First Spouse Gold Coin, which was released on September 3.
