The latest weekly US Mint sales report continues the drop off in sales for numismatic gold coins that began last week. This coincides with a decline in the spot price of gold that began at mid-month after gold reached a fresh all time high of $1,386 per ounce.
Sales figures for the recently released 2010 Proof Gold Eagle coins dropped by half or more compared to the prior week levels. The US Mint recorded sales of 2,107 of the one ounce coins, 247 of the half ounce, 311 of the quarter ounce, 644 of the tenth ounce, and 1,432 of the 4 Coin Set. For a third consecutive week, the highest seller was the one ounce individual option, which has now reached total sales of 21, 302, or 85.2% of the product limit.
The available First Spouse Gold Coins sold a combined 54 coins across all options. This comes in around one-tenth the level of sales in the prior week when 539 coins were sold. The weakest seller was the recently released James Buchanan's Liberty First Spouse Gold Coin, which sold just 7 proof and negative 29 uncirculated coins.
The 2010 Proof Gold Buffalo also experienced a sharp drop this week with sales of 485 coins. This is the lowest weekly sales total since mid-July. Total sales have now reached 37,703, which is more than 11,000 below the last reported sales for the 2009-dated version of the coin.
A bright spot in this week's report is the 2010 annual sets. The 2010 Proof Set, 2010 Mint Set, and 2010 Silver Proof Set, each showed gains compared to the prior week. This was led by the 2010 Proof Set, which sold 40,006 units to bring the total sales to 753,862.
The complete report of US Mint numismatic product sales appears in the table below. Figures are compiled as of October 24, 2010. The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date, and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Figures which are followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available for sale from the United States Mint. Other products can be found online at http://catalog.usmint.gov/

The article reads: James Buchanan’s Liberty First Spouse Gold Coin, which sold just 7 uncirculated and negative 29 proof coins.
BUT
Sales were the other way around. 7 proof, negative 29 uncirculated.
Thanks, I fixed that sentence.
