The latest sales figures for currently offered United States Mint products has been released. The most significant change is the rise in sales of the Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin, which bring sales above the closely watched 100,000 level. This coin had first gone on sale January 19, 2009 and sold nearly 40,000 coins through the opening weekend. The pace of sales slowed in the following months until the US Mint finally raised and removed ordering limits, which prompted an increase in sales.
Strong sales continue for the US Mint's annual sets including the clad proof set, silver proof set, and uncirculated mint set. These sets contain the largest number of coins for the respective offerings ever. The expanded number of coins is the result of this year's DC & US Territories Quarters Program and the four designs for the 2009 Lincoln Cents.
On the slow side, First Spouse Gold Coins sold very few coins this week. The slow down is likely the result of another price increase, which was put into effect after the average price of gold exceeded the $1,050 level.
The table below presents the full report of US Mint sales figures. Total sales for each product are compiled as of October 18, 2009. The first number column represents the total sales to date. The second number column represents the change in sales since last week.

Coins are more useful as collector’s items than for purchases…effect of credit cards, inflation, electronic payments…the mint sells scrap metal at a huge premium!!!
