The latest weekly report of the United States Mint's numismatic sales is once again headlined by the 2010-W James Buchanan's Liberty First Spouse Gold Coins. Although demand has slowed after the opening days of availability, total sales have now reached nearly 50% of the maximum authorized mintage for the offering.
Last week, the James Buchanan's Liberty coins had recorded combined sales of 6,127, across the proof and uncircualted versions. These sales represented orders received by the US Mint during the first four days of availability. This week, collectors ordered an additional 1,272 coins, bringing total sales to 7,399. This amount represents 49.33% of the maximum authorized mintage of 15,000 coins.
After holding the maximum mintage for each issue of the First Spouse Gold Coin series at 40,000 units through the first three years of the series, the US Mint cut mintage levels for this year's releases. The first three coins featuring Abigail Fillmore, Jane Pierce, and James Buchanan's Liberty have maximum mintages of 15,000 coins each. The fourth release featuring Mary Todd Lincoln will have a maximum mintage of 20,000 coins. Collectors have been speculating as to whether the James Buchanan's Liberty or Mary Todd Lincoln coins might achieve a sell out.

The first number column represents total sales through the reporting date and the second number column represents the change in sales since the last report. Figures which are followed by an asterisk (*) are no longer available for sale at the US Mint.
