This week's US Mint sales report includes the debut numbers for the popular 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollars. As a sell out for this product is widely expected, the opening sales figures have been awaited for an indication of just how soon this might occur.
The Boy Scouts Silver Dollars went on sale last week on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Through this week's reporting date of March 28, 2010, the US Mint recorded combined sales of 214,673 coins. The breakdown was 144,732 proof coins and 69,941 uncirculated coins. The maximum authorized mintage for the program has been set at 350,000. That means the US Mint has reached 61.34% of the maximum after less than one week.
Another product new to the sales report is the Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set featuring Millard and Abigail Fillmore with initial sales of 2,362. This represents the first release for the product type following a $3 price increase. The prior Presidential $1 Coin and First Spouse Medal Set featuring Zachary and Margaret Taylor had debuted with sales of 2,702. Are the US Mint's customers displaying some restraint as a direct result of the price increase?
The complete US Mint sales report appears below. Figures are compiled through March 28, 2010. Starting this week, products which are no longer available from the US Mint will continue to appear on the reports with the last reported sales figures followed by an asterisk (*). As usual, the first number column of the report indicates total sales to date and the second number column represents the change in sales since last week's report.

I keep asking a question about the First Spouse series which has never been adequately answered by the US Mint.
Here it is again…
*******************************************************************
Does the “US Mint Sales Report” accurately reflect the total number of coins minted for each First Spouse design?
*******************************************************************
The US Mint stops publishing sales figures when the Mint stops selling the coins directly to the public which leads us to believe these are the “Final Mintage Totals”.
Title 31, 5112(o) states that coins of this series can can only be minted during the same period as the associated Presidential coin and only to a predetermined Maximum Mintage, but “can continue to be sold” until the program ends…in 2016.
Collectors of this series base rather expensive purchasing decisions on the reported US Mint sales figures…understanding them to be the FINAL mintage numbers. If additional coins are later sold through other outlets (such as the US Mint’s Bullion Dealer Program), THE PUBLIC HAS A RIGHT TO KNOW.
Thank you…It’ll be interesting to see if the US Mint finally responds one way or another.
