Today February 15, 2011, the United States Mint began sales of the 2011 Presidential Dollar Proof Set. This product includes proof versions of the $1 coins featuring the 17th to 20th Presidents of the United States of America.
Proof coins are created by striking specially treated coin blanks multiple times with polished dies. This creates sharp relief and a frosted foreground design against a mirror like background, for a “cameo” effect. The proof Presidential Dollars are struck at the San Francisco Mint and carry the “S” mint mark.
Each four coin set includes the following coins:
- 2011 Andrew Johnson Presidential Dollar
- 2011 Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Dollar
- 2011 Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Dollar
- 2011 James Garfield Presidential Dollar
The four coins are packaged in a single protective lens and placed within an outer cardboard box. Each set is priced at $19.95 plus applicable shipping and handling.
The 2011 Proof Presidential Dollars were previously released within the 2011 Proof Set and 2011 Silver Proof Set. These full annual sets contain proof versions of other denominations, with a total of 14 different coins per set.
