On October 25, 2011, the United States Mint began accepting orders for the 2011-P Glacier National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. This represents the seventh release for the five ounce silver numismatic series featuring the designs of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program.
The reverse design of the coin features a classic view of the northeast slope of Mount Reynolds and a mountain goat in the foreground of the image. This was designed by Barbara Fox and sculpted by Charles L. Vickers. On the obverse is a portrait of George Washington designed by John Flanagan.
Limited to a maximum mintage of 35,000 pieces, these numismatic coins have a special finish created through a vapor blasting technique and carry the “P” mint mark. A bullion version of the coin with a standard finish and without a mint mark was available earlier this year. The initial production of 126,700 pieces sold out at the authorized purchaser level.
The 2011-P Glacier 5 oz. Silver Uncirculated Coin is priced by the United States Mint at $229.95 with a household ordering limit of five. Two previous numismatic releases featuring Mount Hood National Forest and Gettysburg National Military Park also remain available for sale at the US Mint, priced at $229.95 each.
