The United States Mint began offering specially packaged bags and rolls of American Samoa Quarters starting today, July 27, 2009. The American Samoa Quarter is the fourth release of this year’s District of Columbia and United States Territories Quarters Program honoring the jurisdictions of the United States not classified as states.
The American Samoa Quarter reverse design features the ava bowl (“tanoa”), whisk and staff in the foreground with a coconut tree on the shore in the background. Inscriptions include “AMERICAN SAMOA” and “SAMOA MUAMUA LE ATUA” (“Samoa, God is First”).
The obverse design of the quarter features the portrait of George Washington used for the entire State Quarters series and DC & US Territories Quarters series.
The US Mint is offering a two-roll set of American Samoa Quarters, which contains one 40-coin roll of coins from the Denver and Philadelphia Mints priced at $32.95 per set. Also offered are 100-coin bags from either Mint priced at $32.95. Lastly, 1,000-coin bags are offered from either Mint priced at $309.95. Shipping and handling charges apply to all orders.
