The United States Mint has started accepting orders for the 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set. Each set includes proof versions of each of this year’s five different quarters.
All five quarters share an obverse design featuring the 1932 portrait of George Washington designed by John Flanagan. The reverse of each quarter contains a design representing the following five National Parks or sites:
- White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire
- Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial in Ohio
- Great Basin National Park in Nevada
- Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Maryland
- Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota
United States Mint proof coins are struck multiple times with specially polished dies. The proof blanks are also specially treated, polished, and cleaned to ensure high quality strikes. The resulting coins feature sharp relief, with frosted sculpted foregrounds and mirrored backgrounds. The proof coins included in this set are struck at the San Francisco Mint and carry the “S” mint mark.
The 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set will debut new packaging for the product. The outer cardboard box features an image of Mount Rushmore National Memorial on the front and a split image featuring images of all five sites on the back.
The cost of each set is $14.95 plus applicable shipping and handling. There is no stated maximum product limit and there are no household ordering limits in place. Orders may be placed online at http://catalog.usmint.gov/
