US Mint America the Beautiful Quarter Bags and Rolls

For the recently launched America the Beautiful Quarters Program, the United States Mint offers numismatic sales of circulating coins packaged in bags and rolls. Similar products had been available for the previous 50 State Quarters Program and District of Columbia & U.S. Territories Quarters Program, however there will be some modifications for the current offerings.

Each release of the America the Beautiful Quarters series will be offered in two roll sets or 100-coin bags. The two roll sets, priced at $32.95, include one 40-coin roll from the Philadelphia Mint and one 40-coin roll from the Denver Mint. The 100-coin bags are priced at $35.95, with separate bags offered containing coins from either the Philadelphia or Denver Mint.

For previous quarter series, the US Mint had offered 1,000-coin bags from the Philadelphia or Denver Mint, priced at $309.95. These larger sized bags will not be available for the present series.

The bags and rolls contain circulating quality coins, but come in special US Mint branded packaging. The coin wrappers and canvas bags feature the US Mint logo and information on the coin design, mint mark, date of issue, and face value of the contents. Although the coins are of similar quality to those found from other circulating coin sources, some US Mint packaged bags and rolls from previous series are valued at a premium on the secondary market, as a result of the packaging.

The America the Beautiful Quarters bags and rolls are intended to remain available for one year after the start of sales. Upon a request for clarification, the US Mint explained that the product will be available for one year, or until inventory is depleted, which ever comes first. The US Mint will monitor inventory levels and potentially decide to produce more or to let the inventory deplete and take the product off sale, depending on the timing.

Last year, bags and rolls of quarters for each design were available for a relatively limited time. As the US Mint released a new quarter and began sales of the related products, sales would conclude for the previous quarter’s bags and rolls. In most cases, this resulted in an availability period of only two or three months.

Currently, the 250-coin bags and two roll sets for the Hot Springs National Park Quarter are available for sale at the United States Mint. The next products featuring the Yellowstone National Park Quarter are scheduled to go on sale June 1, 2010. These products can be purchased online at http://catalog.usmint.gov.
