The United States Mint has started accepting orders for the 2013 Silver Proof Set. This 14-coin annual collector set includes 7 coins struck in a special composition of 90% silver.
To produce proof coinage, the US Mint uses specially treated proof blanks fed, which are struck multiple times with specially polished dies. The resulting coins are extraordinarily brilliant with sharp relief and a mirror like background. The design elements and inscriptions appear frosted to produce a cameo effect.
Each 2013 Silver Proof Set contains the following 14 coins struck at the San Francisco Mint and bearing the “S” mint mark:
- 2013-S Lincoln Cent
- 2013-S Jefferson Nickel
- 2013-S Roosevelt Dime
- 2013-S America the Beautiful Quarters – featuring White Mountain National Forest, Perry’s Victory Memorial, Great Basin National Park, Fort McHenry National Monument, Mount Rushmore National Memorial
- 2013-S Kennedy Half Dollar
- 2013-S Native American Dollar
- 2013-S Presidential Dollars – featuring William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Woodrow Wilson
The Roosevelt Dime, five America the Beautiful Quarters, and Kennedy Half Dollar are struck in “coin silver” with a composition of 90% silver and 10% copper. Together these coins contain a total of 1.33823 troy ounces of pure silver.
All 14 coins included in the set are placed into three protective plastic lenses and packaged in an outer box with a certificate of authenticity. Each set is priced at $67.95. There are no maximum product limits or household ordering limits imposed.
