The U.S. Mint has released its weekly sales report, giving us our first look at numbers for the four new products launched last week.
The 2016 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set was reissued last week with corrected packaging and posted higher sales numbers than any other numismatic product during this period. Sales for the set are listed at 38,733, a total that likely includes the 12,000 sets sold in January before the packaging error was discovered. Even subtracting those early sales, the set sold 26,733 units since last Tuesday, giving it the most sales overall during the last week.
Coming in second is another newly released item, the 2016 Shawnee National Forest 5 oz. Silver Uncirculated Coin, which sold 15,263 units. The new two-roll (P&D) set of 2016 Kennedy half dollars nabbed the third place slot with 11,358 sales, and fourth went to the 2016 Shawnee Three-Quarter Set, which also debuted last week and posted 10,086 sales.
The 2016 Mark Twain Commemorative coins have seen a fair amount of time in Back Order or Unavailable status at the Mint’s Web site of late, but still managed to post respectable gains for the week. Both silver issues, which were Unavailable for a time last week, saw sales of roughly 1,000 coins a piece. Also worth keeping an eye on is the 2015 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin, which can no longer be found on the Mint’s Web site, perhaps signaling that it is about to be declared Sold Out.
