The 2016 American Liberty Silver Medals are among the U.S. Mint’s most anticipated product releases for this year, and with the August 28 launch-date approaching the Mint has shared its pricing for the items. The medals — which will be struck on one-ounce 99.9% silver planchets usually reserved for American Eagle Silver coins — will cost $34.95 each.
Collectors will be able to choose from medals struck at the San Francisco Mint and the West Point Mint. A single silver medal was originally planned for release along with the gold issue last year, but the Mint adjusted the plan to include two issues slated for release in 2016. The Mint has not shared additional information regarding mintage limits or household order restrictions.
The obverse of the medals features a modern rendition of Liberty created by Justin Kunz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. The reverse carries an image of an eagle designed by Paul C. Balan and sculpted by Don Everhart. More information on these issues will be posted as it becomes available.
