This month, the Perth Mint has released a stamp and coin cover celebrating the 85th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The product will be available from April 5, 2011 for the birthday which will occur on April 21.
The reverse design of the coin features a smiling portrait of the Queen with a representation of her personal flag as Head of the Commonwealth of Australia. The inscription above reads “H.M. Queen Elizabeth II” and below “85th Birthday 1926 – 2011”. The aluminum bronze composition coins are legal tender with a face value of 1 dollar and will only be issued as part of the stamp and coin cover.
The coin is housed on a card that fits within a specially designed, illustrated envelope with a circular window. Affixed to the envelope is a $2.20 stamp featuring Rolf Harris’s portrait of the Queen and a 60c stamp with Brian Dunlop’s 1984 Royal portrait. The stamps are postmarked for the first day of issue April 5, 2011 by the Australia Post.
