The Bulgarian National Bank has launched a new silver and partially gold plated commemorative coin to mark 250 years of “Slavo-Bulgarian History” (Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya). This book was written by Paisy Hilendarski in 1792 and helped to restore national pride after years under Ottoman rule. The author is considered the forefather of the Bulgarian National Revival, which led to the Liberation of Bulgaria.
The obverse design of the coin features the stylized cover of the first transcript of “Slavo-Bulgarian History” with the logo of the Bulgarian National Bank beneath. The surrounding inscriptions read ‘БЪЛГАРСКА НАРОДНА БАНКА’ (Bulgarian National Bank), the face value ‘10 ЛЕВА’ (BGN 10), and the year ‘2012’.
The reverse of the coin includes an illustration of the history, Paisy Hilendarski’s stamp and signature, along with a well known citation from the History. The inscription around the circumference reads ‘250 ГОДИНИ ИСТОРИЯ СЛАВЯНОБЪЛГАРСКА’ (250 Years of Slavo-Bulgarian History).
Designs for the coin were created by Elena Todorova and Todor Todorov.
Each coin is struck in proof quality in 92.5% silver with partial gold plating. The weight is 23.33 grams with a diameter of 38.61. The mintage has been set at 4,000 pieces. The coins may be purchased at Bulgarian National Park cash desks for BGN 84.
