Sales of 2016 America the Beautiful 5 oz. silver bullion coins have surpassed 2015’s year-end total after less than six months. After 33,000 Harpers Ferry 5 oz. bullion coins were sold to authorized purchasers yesterday, this year’s mintage total for 5 oz. bullion issues hit 213,000 units to pull ahead of the 212,000 pieces posted by the end of last year.
As noted on Mint News Blog, 2016 has now seen the second-highest 5 oz. silver bullion mintage ever, with 2011 holding on to first place at 465,100 coins sold. While it’s unlikely 2011’s record will be broken this year, 2016 will continue to add to its formidable total as the Harpers Ferry issue continues to sell, followed by the upcoming Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Fort Moultrie at Fort Sumter National Monument issues.
Mintages for 2016’s 5 oz. silver bullion issues currently stand at 105,000 for the Shawnee issue, 75,000 for Cumberland Gap, and 33,000 for Harpers Ferry. Yearly mintage totals for these coins are included on the chart below.
