The Royal Mint have announced that a gold, silver and cupro-nickel crown coin has been issued which celebrates the newest arrival for the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge family, whose second child was born on the 2nd May. The new arrival is the couple’s first daughter with the new-born Princess weighing in at a healthy 8 pounds, 3 ounces. Their little girl, named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, is now fourth in line to the British throne and is also the fifth great-grandchild of HM Queen Elizabeth II & the Duke of Edinburgh and the second Grandchild of HRH Charles, Prince of Wales. Prince William is the eldest son of the Prince of Wales and the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Their first child, a son was born on the 22nd July of 2013 and was named George Alexander Louis.
The coin, designed by John Bergdhal includes an ornate reverse in similar design to the Christening coin issued for the little Princess’ big brother Prince George in October 2013. The inscription includes “TO CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF THE SECOND CHILD OF” around the edge along with the text “THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE” in stylized scroll text. The obverse includes the fifth definitive portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Jody Clark and introduced earlier this year for all British circulation and selected commemorative coinage.
