The Royal Canadian Mint has launched a new three-coin series of silver coins featuring “day in the life” scenes of the Bald Eagle. The trio includes one coin with selective gold plating, one coin with selective paint application, and a traditional silver proof coin.
Offered as a three coin subscription, the silver coins depict the story of a day in the life of the Bald Eagle as it rests, soars, hunts and returns to its perch with the day’s food. Each coin is struck in 99.99% pure silver to proof quality with a weight of 31.39 grams and diameter of 38 mm. All coins are designed by Canadian artist Cladio D-Angelo.
The first coin features a bald eagle with wings extended to their full span standing on the branch of a pine tree and clutching a freshly caught fish. The design is augmented with selective gold plating.
The second coin features a portrait of the bald eagle in flight, as it turns abruptly in air, angling itself to dive. The isolated shoreline and body of water below are seen in the background with a steep pine-covered hill rising to the left. The bald eagle is rendered in full color through selective paint application.
The third and final silver coin depicts a bald eagle which has just caught a fish, with water splashing as the eagle captures the fish from its watery home. In the distant background, a rocky point dotted with sparse conifers reaches out above the water.
The three coin subscription indicates a mintage of 8,500 pieces.
A five coin subscription is also available, which includes gold and platinum coins featuring a three-quarter profile portrait of the eagle’s head designed by Derek Wicks. The 1/10 oz gold coin is struck in 99.99% purity to proof quality with a diameter of 16 mm. The 1/10 oz platinum coin is struck in 99.95% purity to proof quality with a diameter of 16 mm.
The five coin subscription indicates a mintage of 3,000 pieces.
