The continued rise in the gold price has led the United States Mint to increase prices for their numismatic gold products. This marks the fourth consecutive increase implemented since August. The current increase impacts the 2010 Proof Gold Eagle, 2010 Proof Gold Buffalo, and First Spouse Gold Coins.
Since early 2009, the United States Mint has utilized a policy which allows them to adjust the prices for gold and platinum numismatic product offerings as often as weekly in responses to changes in precious metals prices.
With respect to gold, pricing tiers are established at $50 intervals with different product prices established for each tier. If the average weekly price of gold moves into a higher or lower tier, product prices are adjusted accordingly.
Previous price increases occurred on August 18, September 15, and October 6. The current increase was put into effect on November 10 and impacted the following fourteen products:

The 2010 Proof Gold Buffalo contains one ounce of 24 karat gold. The 2010 Proof Gold Eagles are struck in 22 karat gold and contain their stated weight in gold content. The individual one ounce option has sold the maximum product limit of 25,000 coins, but remains available through a waiting list option. The First Spouse Gold Coins each contain one-half ounce of 24 karat gold.
The US Mint will release the final gold product of the year on December 2, 2010, when the Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coins go on sale.
